Event Description
Join the BZD and our guide Mahlodi for a fascinating journey into the history and traditions of the Lemba Tribe in southern Africa. Genetic research has revealed that many Lemba tribespeople have Jewish origins, and their customs—such as dietary laws, ritual animal slaughter, and wearing yarmulke-like skullcaps—reflect deep connections to Jewish traditions. Mahlodi, a young Lemba woman from Ramokgopa Village in South Africa, has played a key role in initiatives teaching Hebrew to Lemba youth interested in reconnecting with their Jewish heritage. A member of the Cape Town Progressive Jewish Congregation (Temple Israel) and a participant in the Nahum Goldmann Fellowship, Mahlodi will share both historical insights and her personal journey of reintegration into Jewish life. Don’t miss this engaging virtual event, complete with a compelling presentation and firsthand accounts.
